Craig Dennington

My first Soar & Roar - 2018

I had really no idea what to expect.

I headed to the Blue Mountains on the Saturday night for a very early start on a summer Sunday a couple of weeks before Xmas.

Parked up early with a fresh coffee and bacon sandwich at Lilianfels Park and met some old faces and new faces of Mustang owners. Good mix of classics and modern.

We then met with our first passengers for the day. One young man ran up to me and shouted "Craig"... I was like ... "Yes, I am Craig". "No No.. Craig" he shouted again. His mum came over, turned his name badge facing forward and I quicky realised he was telling me - he was Craig!

"Can I go with you - in your car. We are Craig"

So we did! After a quick briefing, off we set down the mountain. I soon discoverd Craig owned a large collection of toy Mustangs.. his favourite car. We headed down the mountain having a nice chat, and singing along to some christmas tunes. And the rider Craig certainly was more in tune than the driver Craig!

At Eastern Creek (woops, sorry, Sydney Motorsports Park) we had a couple of parade laps and then a decent hot lap in. Waved goodbye to my first passenger Craig and watched the bikies leave and settled in for the rest of the day.

I took 4 other passengers around that day. One didn't speak - but he laughed all the way around the track at speeds up to 140km an hour... one was totally blind, so we wound the window down and made sure he could feel the rush of the wind and the noise from the V8. The other two had physical challenges, but talked and laughed and (one told me I needed to drive faster... not sure that was going to happen!).

A brilliant day. Bringing smiles to some brilliant kids. I loved it, they loved it.

Thats why in 2019... I'm doing it again
